Recommended Gongfu Brewing Method

  • For a 120 mL (4 fl oz) teapot or gaiwan, use 4 g (0.14 oz) of tea.

  • For the first and second infusion, steep the tea for 25 seconds in water at a temperature of 90°C (194°F).

  • For each subsequent infusion, increase the steeping time by 10 seconds.

  • This tea is good for 4 infusions.

  • Use spring water or purified water. Do not use tap water.

  • Xinyang Maojian is a green tea originating from Xinyang City in Henan Province. As one of China’s top ten famous teas, it is unique for being one of the few renowned teas from northern China. It is named “Maojian” for its abundant white tips and its slender, round, straight shape with prominent sharp tips.

  • Our Xinyang Maojian is harvested before the Qingming solar term from the high mountainous region of Heilongtan Village in Shihe District, the core production area of Xinyang Maojian. The high altitude and latitude of this area result in a lower annual average temperature, causing the tea buds and leaves to grow slowly and accumulate more substances. Additionally, this tea is made from local Quntizhong tea trees, giving it a richer flavor.

The traditional craftsmanship, including wood-fired pan-frying and charcoal roasting, enhances its aromatic profile and sweet taste.

  • The dry leaves of our Xinyang Maojian are dark green with silver-gray hues. A gentle sniff of the dry leaves reveals a subtle freshness and roasted aroma, while the warm scent offers a rich chestnut fragrance.

Upon brewing, the tea exudes elegant floral and fruity notes. The flavor is full-bodied and mellow, with a sweet freshness that carries a hint of pleasant bitterness and slight astringency. The aftertaste is brisk and long-lasting, leaving a refreshing and pleasant sensation.
