Recommended Gongfu Brewing Method

  • For a 120 mL (4 fl oz) teapot or gaiwan, use 6 g (0.21 oz) of tea.

  • For the first infusion, steep the tea for 6 seconds in water at a temperature above 95°C (203°F).

  • For each subsequent infusion, increase the steeping time by 6s.

  • This tea is good for 6 or more infusions.

  • Use spring water or purified water. Do not use tap water.

  • Wuyi Rock Tea is the progenitor of Oolong teas and a rare gem in this category. Named for its unique growing environment in the weathered soil of Wuyi Mountains, this tea can be categorized based on origin: Zhengyan, Banyan, Zhoucha, and Waishan. Wuyi Rock Tea boasts a diversity of tea tree varieties, with the most prominent being Rougui, Shuixian, and Dahongpao.

  • Our Dahongpao originates from Qiyunfeng Peak, situated near the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area, qualifying it as a Banyan tea. Unlike common Dahongpaos found in the market, which are often blends of different rock tea varieties, our Dahongpao is a purebred, cultivated from cuttings taken from the highly renowned ancient mother trees of Jiulongke. Known as Qidan, this particular cultivar has a limited yield in Wuyi Mountains, making it a rare find.

This tea is meticulously crafted using traditional techniques, featuring multiple low-temperature, long-duration charcoal roasting sessions, ensuring an even and thorough transformation of its flavors and aromas.

  • We selected this Banyan because it possesses qualities that can rival Zhengyan teas. It showcases a genuine rock-imbued essence, known as “Yanyun”. Its aroma unfolds in layers, with floral, nutty, and creamy notes presented sequentially. The flavor is sweet, full-bodied, and balanced, complemented by a smooth and crisp texture, and leaves a moisturizing and salivating aftertaste. The enduring allure of this tea has made it our most frequently consumed tea over the years, and a beloved choice for our tea ceremonies.
