What Is Gongfu Tea?

Chinese tea poured from a glass faircup into two teacups during Gongfu Tea Service.

Gongfu tea is a traditional Chinese way of brewing tea with more tea leaves, smaller teaware, and a series of infusions. The same tea leaves are brewed repeatedly, so the tea's aroma, taste, and mouthfeel can shift from one infusion to the next.

A Quiet Way to Enjoy Chinese Tea

Mengyan Gong smells the aroma of Chinese tea while two guests taste tea at Teasthetic's NYC Tea Studio.

At Teasthetic, Gongfu Tea Service is a relaxed way to sit down and enjoy Chinese tea in our Tea Studio. You choose a tea from our menu, settle at the tea table, and Mengyan brews and serves it for you through six infusions.

The session can be quiet or gently conversational; you are welcome to ask questions, notice each infusion, or simply enjoy the tea at your own pace.

Choose From Our Tea Selection

Our Tea Service is a good way to experience selected Chinese teas prepared with care. The menu covers green tea, white tea, oolong tea, red tea, Pu'er tea, and dark tea, including teas from our Private Collection that are only available to taste in our Tea Studio.

You can choose based on your own preferences, and Mengyan can also help you find your next tea to try. Teas on the menu range from $28 to $86. That price is for the tea itself, not per person — your whole table shares it.
