What Is a Chinese Tea Ceremony?

Water being poured from a kettle into a clay teapot during a Chinese tea ceremony at Teasthetic.

A Chinese tea ceremony is an attentive way of preparing, serving, and sharing tea. At the tea table, the choice of tea and teaware, the arrangement of the tea stage, and the movements of brewing and serving are all part of the experience.

At Teasthetic, each tea is prepared through multiple infusions using the Gongfu brewing method, allowing its aroma, taste, and mouthfeel to develop from one infusion to the next.

A Private Tea Experience for Your Group

Mengyan Gong and four guests smell the aroma of Chinese tea during a private tea ceremony at Teasthetic's NYC Tea Studio.

For the full two hours, the Tea Studio is reserved exclusively for your group. Mengyan is with you from beginning to end, brewing and serving the teas and guiding the experience.

The private setting gives your group time to explore the teas and teaware and enjoy the experience together. The atmosphere is calm and intimate, with room for both quiet attention and natural conversation.

Two Teas for the Ceremony

In addition to welcome tea, your group chooses two Chinese teas for the ceremony. The menu covers green tea, white tea, oolong tea, red tea, Pu'er tea, and dark tea, including teas from our Private Collection that are only available to taste in our Tea Studio. You can choose based on your own preferences, and Mengyan can also help you find your next tea to try.

Prices listed on the menu apply to Gongfu Tea Service. The Private Chinese Tea Ceremony is priced as a complete experience.
