Meditation with Tea: A Chinese Tea Ceremony for Stillness

  • Teasthetic 89 5th Avenue, Ste 701 New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

In this immersive experience, you’ll meditate following the Zen school of teaching, and appreciate two kinds of premium Chinese tea, masterfully brewed.

Tea enhances our meditation practice, while the mindfulness we gain from meditation deepens our sensory awareness, allowing us to savor the subtle flavors of tea.

For this session, the tea ceremony will feature Wudong Songzhong, a Fenghuang Dancong oolong known for its gardenia aroma, gentle sweetness, and lingering floral finish.

What You Will Experience

  • Cultivating Mindfulness: We will do a guided Zen meditation to relax our body and mind, gain mindfulness, and embrace the present moment.

  • Awakening the Senses: During the welcome tea and the Chinese tea ceremony, we will use Zen techniques to awaken our senses and fully appreciate the aroma and taste of each tea.

  • Exploring the Zen Tea Culture: When tea culture began flourishing over a millennium ago, it was closely connected with Zen and meditation. Today, we will explore the unique cultural experience of “Zen and tea, one in taste.”
